C

In chemical weathering, the composition of the weathered substance is changed while in physical weathering the rock's chemical composition remains unchanged.

Explanation:

Physical weathering is a mechanical process. This is usually influenced majorly by temperature differences within a rock. When a rock is heated by the sun, the outer regions get heated up faster than the insides. This causes the rock to expand deferentially causing stress within the rock. Also during cooling the insides cool slower than the outsides. Eventually, after many cooling and heating events, the rocks cracks and break into smaller pieces. This same mechanical process applies when water freezes and thaws in the cracks of a rock. The chemical composition of the rock, however, remains the same in the process.

Chemical weathering changes the chemical composition of the rock. An example is where limestone is dissolved by acid rain / precipitation. When acidic rain falls on limestone (which is mainly CaCO₃) rock, it dissolves the minerals in the rock because the product of the chemical reaction is the aqueous CaHCO₃ that gets carried away in the water, in dissolved form.
